How to Care for Air Plants

Air Plants are one of the easiest plants to take care of since it is a hardy plant but even though they can survive for a long time of drought, it is still important to water and provide indirect sunlight. Here are the requirements when taking care of air plants (tillandsia).

Sunlight Requirements:

Air plants do not require much of sunlight, indirect sunlight and a warm climate is the most applicable. It can also thrive in shaded areas if you are planning it to put indoors.

Water Requirements:

For every one (1) to two (2) weeks, soak the air plant in room temperature  for 5-20 minutes and let it dry upside down. You can also mist your plant every 3-5 days if the plant is too dry but make sure it is not too much. Just a 2-3 pumps of spray will do.

Fertilizers:

Fertilizer application is somehow optional, but it is usually done if you want to propagate the air plants. You may fertilize it three (3) times per week with 14 14 14 and 20 10 10. Also, orchid fertilizers can also be used.

Pest Control:

The most common pests are aphids, spider mites, millipedes, grasshoppers, and birds. Malathion is the most appropriate pesticide (it is important to follow the instructions carefully before using).
